Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Trend: Peplum

The latest craze over the peplum trend has caught the attention of fashion followers.  Celebrities and fashionistas riding the bandwagon of this fashion trend.  Women are accentuating their hips by adding volume.  Add the best way to add volume to your hips is to wear a peplum.

Peplum b Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Trend: Peplum

The peplum trend was quite popular during the 40′s.  Women wore a short overskirt which was attached jacket.  It also featured shoulder pads to accentuate the shoulders.  It usually extends to the mid stomach. Peplums also gained popularity in the 180o’s. Today, peplum is subtler and more chic.  The revival of the peplum trend can be seen in some of collections of fashion designers like Marc Jacobs, Mugler, Proenza Schouler and more.
Peplums are very feminine which makes it popular among women of all body types.  It emphasizes the waist and covers the hips with the peplum.  Some peplums creates an illusion of bigger hips and tighter waist.  Peplum comes in two styles: flared peplum and fitted peplum.  The fitted peplum is the most flattering type because it cinches the waist.  It creates an illusion of a perfect hourglass figure.

How to Wear the Peplum:

Wear a peplum top with a pencil skirt for a slimmer effect.  Don’t over accessorize because it will wheel away the attention from your peplum ensemble.
Check out some of the celebrities who sported the peplum trend and follow their style.  Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman, Emma Watson, Liv Tyler, Whitney Port, Rihanna, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, Fergie and Beyonce.  These ladies followed the peplum trend but added their own twist.
Designers innovated the trend by incorporating it wit other trends which includes polka dots, structural shapes and fetish peplums. You may incorporate other trends like contemporary designs, bold colors, hottest fabrics, embellishments and more.

The S/S 2012 collection, shown at Ukrainian Fashion Week, introduces architectural  minimalism. I had the urge to call it futuristic but realized that not every collection featuring lots of white and transparent materials should be called that.
I loved Svetlana’s departure from her usual monochrome palette, presented in the form of an intriguing 3D cube print. She seems to be a big fan of geometric shapes but usually uses them in pleats and other special effects on fabric.
I would like to point out the clever take on major fashion trends: transparency and asymmetric hems. And, as always, Bevza footwear makes me gasp in awe!
Svetlana also designed one more S/S 2012 collection specifically for the U. S. market. It will be available in EM & Co in Los Angeles and Mint Boutique in Savannah, Georgia.

Sid neigum spring 2012

For lack of a better statement, this collection kicked mediocrity in the junk! Sid has really taken his creative skills and added a strong theme to this seasons collection.
Sid seemed to draw inspirations from the Edo period and made excellent up-do’s and strong sharp eyebrows to exaggerate the feel of the collection.

All of the looks were a mix of leather, wood, and wool pieces and from them came a collection that certainly pushed the boundaries of conceptual fashion. The downside of conceptual fashion is that is can be misunderstood, and though more and more designers are bridging the gap between retail-friendly and fashion future there is still many buyers and retailers that are choosing safe over spectacular

Overall I could see myself in many of these clothes and really respect Sid’s push for androgyny and more specifically, men in skirts. Not that I want desperately to wear a skirt, but I would love the option to. also used international model Andrej Pejic who opened the show in a sheer shirt and an amply shouldered women’s jacket that just looked killer. This is the kind of fashion that america needs. The kind that sits on your face and leaves you delirious!
I had an opportunity to talk to Sid after the show and ask him about his move to the big apple and wooden shoes!

    • Androgyny was very prevalent in your collection and one of the main trends in your show from men in skirts to prominent eyebrows on the female models where did that come from?

Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection 2012

Cast your eyes over Louis Vuitton’s recently released campaign for the S/S 2012 Cruise collection, starring model de jour Arizona Muse. The sun-drenched photography captured by Mark Segal was shot on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea, depicting a sense of resort luxury like only Louis Vuitton know how.

Adrian wu spring 2012

Adrian Wu

Double Slit Experiment used for inspiration behind ‘s spring 2012 fashion collection. Matter becomes fashion particles and makes waves.
ADRIAN WU, 21 years old, fearless, bold, and possibly one of the most unique collections this season at LG Fashion Week in Toronto. His concepts are original, his construction is sound, and the silhouette pushed most peoples comfort with fashion. Unfortunately this collection was not received as well as I would have personally liked, but that seems to be the way it is… new talent is often over criticized
While the collection wasn’t the most salable, it should be applauded for its cohesiveness and originality, not to mention the fact that it was designed by a 21 year old…. at that age most guys are out partying all night and dropping out of university. Here we have a budding designer that is well on his way to becoming an internationally recognized superstar in the fashion world. All I have to say is Woot Woot!

Adrian Wu Spring 2012 3 Adrian Wu Spring 2012

This season’s inspiration was the double-slit experiment, (A.K.A. Young’s experiment, it demonstrates how matter and energy can display characteristics of both waves and particles). Although when I asked, Adrian said “I really don’t know anything about Quantum Physics” … lol. He went on to say it was more about the fact that I could design a collection around the concept of this. That is what is more important.
I had a chance to chat with Adian backstage after the show and was really taken back on how unassuming, charming, and ridiculous cute (in a faltering way) he was. Also he’s like a 3rd my size, huge talent, small packaging :)  Oh and speaking of the show, the studio presentation of the Wu’s spring 2012 incorporated a live mini orchestra, how neat is that? Right in the middle of the environment, live music and conceptual fashion, great start to any day!
